How to Set Up a RedM Server License Key

Connecting your server to the Cfx.re ecosystem is the absolute core of bringing your RedM server world online. Without a valid license key attached to your server, your system will fail to start. This key authenticates your server with the master list and links your server profile directly to your Cfx.re account. In this Nitrado guide, you will learn how to quickly generate your key and apply it directly within your server dashboard.

Why is a License Key Required?

A license key is a unique identifier required to run a RedM server. It connects your server to RedM’s backend and ensures you’re authorized to host. Remember, your server will not work properly without this key. You just need to register and set it up through your Nitrado web interface.

Setting Up Your RedM Server License Key

1. Head towards portal.cfx.re and sign in with your Cfx.re account (sign up if needed).
2. Once logged in, click Generate Key at the top right from the “Servers” tab above.
   
3. Enter anything for the Display Name, then select the Generate button.
4. Unhide the key and copy it. Save this for the server configuration!
   
5. Navigate to your Nitrado Webinterface and click General under “Settings” to the left.
   
6. Proceed to paste your key in the Server License Key option, then save changes.
   
7. Restart your RedM server so the changes can take effect.

Important: Keep your generated key private at all times. Sharing your key allows unauthorized servers to run under your account identity, which can result in a suspension from the Cfx.re platform.

Common Issues

No license key was specified

If you followed the instructions and cannot join or notice problems in the console, then this means the key is missing or incomplete. Double-check the General Settings to see if the key isn’t missing any characters. You can also do this by checking the server.cfg file in the redm/server_data directory from the File Browser for sv_licenseKey.

Multiple servers with same key

In case you have two or more RedM servers, you will need to generate a key for each one. Do not attempt to use the same license key for both servers, this will not work. Repeat the steps above for each RedM server you host. This ensures that each one will work properly.

Unable to join RedM server

If you did everything correctly and you can’t join the server, then you most likely haven’t set up txAdmin. Make sure to do that by visiting our guide linked in the last step above. Without doing that, you and others will not be able to connect or view the server in RedM.
