How To Start a Euro Truck Simulator 2 Server

How to Start a Euro Truck Simulator 2 Server – Introduction

In Euro Truck Simulator 2, players hop aboard a truck and venture across Europe, from the beautiful landscapes of Italy to the sunny coast of Iberia. Before starting your Euro Truck Simulator server adventure, there’s a bit of setup needed to get your server ready for use.

Truck Simulator servers require a special configuration file from your game, which must be uploaded to the server. Creating and uploading this file only takes a few minutes and ensures your server is prepared for the driving journey ahead. Follow along as we show you how to start a Euro Truck Simulator 2 server so you can hit the road and create fun experiences with your friends!

Getting Started with a Euro Truck Simulator 2 Server

    Renting Your Own ETS2 Server

    • Once you’ve selected a plan, confirm your payment and server options.
    • Complete your payment. Afterward, your server will be set up instantly, and you can begin managing your Euro Truck Simulator 2 server!

    Creating ETS2 Server Config Files

    • First, ensure that Euro Truck Simulator 2 is installed on your computer.
    • Next, enable the game console by editing the game’s config.cfg file.
      • Locate the config.cfg file. The location depends on your computer’s operating system:
        1. On Windows: /USER/Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2/config.cfg
        2. On macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Euro Truck Simulator 2/config.cfg
        3. On Linux: USER/.local/share/Euro Truck Simulator 2/config.cfg
      • Inside the config.cfg file, find the following settings and change their values from “0” to “1”:
        • g_developer
        • g_console
    • After making those changes, save the file, start Euro Truck Simulator, and fully load into the game world. It’s recommended to wait a few minutes to allow the world to generate fully before moving to the next step.
    • Once you’re in the game, open the console by pressing the “~” key on an English keyboard (or the equivalent key under “Esc” on other keyboards).
    • Type the command “export_server_packages” and press Enter. This will export the necessary files for your Truck Simulator server.

    • Once the export is complete, you’ll see the message “Server packages exported successfully.” This process creates the files server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat in the Truck Simulator directory (see locations in step #2).
    • Log in to your Truck Simulator server’s FTP and upload these files into your server’s ets2/save folder.
    • After uploading the files, start your Truck Simulator server, join it, and you’re ready to hit the road with your friends!

How to Join Your Truck Simulator Server

Once your server is set up, it will appear in the Convoy menu of Euro Truck Simulator 2. You can use the search option to find and join your Truck Simulator server. After you and your friends join, you’re ready to start your trucking adventure!
