Minecraft Server Advertising - Grow Your Server

Minecraft Server Advertising – How to Grow Your Server

Minecraft Server Advertising Guide – Introduction

Minecraft is home to hundreds of thousands of individual servers, where players worldwide join and experience new adventures every day. From prison servers where players collect and sell blocks for level-ups to PVP servers where players battle it out to become the ultimate survivor. When it comes to running a Minecraft server, one of the most important parts is growing the server and getting more players. With Minecraft server advertising, growing your server has never been easier.

With Minecraft server advertising, your server is shared with the public while displaying its best features to bring players to join so that your server can grow. Advertising a Minecraft server can be done in a variety of ways. Whether that’s posting the server on a Minecraft server listing website or making daily social media posts about the enjoyable times on your server. Follow us into the world of Minecraft servers as we explore how to set up Minecraft server advertising so that you can jump-start your player growth on your Minecraft server!

Methods to Grow Your Minecraft Server

Minecraft Server Advertising with Server Listing Websites

A Minecraft server listing websites are sites that unlock endless benefits for your server. From putting your server out there for others to see to offering a platform to update your players on new changes to the server. Along with that, features like server voting and bumping help to push your server to the top for more Minecraft players to see. Here is an example of a server listing on one of these websites.

Minecraft Server Advertising with a Server List

You can find the steps to set up your own server listing for your Minecraft game server below!

    Setting up Listing Advertising

    1. Firstly, you’ll need to find a Minecraft server listing website to place your server on. Since there are quite a few server listing websites out there, we’ve included recommendations below. For this guide, we will be using Planet Minecraft.
    2. Next, on the voting website sign-up and then start posting your server to the site. In the example of Planet Minecraft, you can go to this link and click “Post Server” to begin adding your server.

    3. Afterward, a “Creating New Server” page will appear. Here, you’ll need to insert your server’s name, categories such as survival and creative, IP address, and country.
    4. Once that information is added, click on “Test Connection” for your server IP address. You will see a “Verify server ownership” section appear asking you to set a custom MOTD on your Minecraft server.

    5. Copy that MOTD from that section, head to your Minecraft server’s webinterface, and then stop your server to prepare for the next steps.
    6. Next, to the left under “Settings”, select the “General” option to edit your server settings.
    7. In your server settings, find the “MOTD” option. Paste that MOTD from the Minecraft Server Listing website to the MOTD on your Minecraft server.

    8. After that MOTD is set, press “Save changes” and then start your Minecraft server.
    9. Once your server is fully online, go back to the Server Listing website.
    10. On that site, you can now press the option “Check My Server’s MOTD for the Code”. After a check is run, if your server has the correct MOTD set your server will then be verified on that Server Listing website.

    11. From there, you can scroll down and finish adding the last details to your Minecraft server listing. These details include images, any YouTube video links of the server, a server description, a banner, tags, and a website link if one is available.
      • In the other tab “Add Image Gallery”, you can also add images of your server. At least one image will need to be added to save your server listing.
      • Additionally, there will be a “Votifier” tab to setup Votifier on your server for voting.
    12. Finally, once all of that information is set press “Publish Live” and your server will now be listed on that Minecraft Server Listing website!

Your Minecraft Server listing will now be live and you can view that page directly on that website. You can share that link with others to invite them to join your Minecraft server!

Voting to Boost Your Minecraft Server

After a Minecraft server listing has been set up, you can take your listing a step further with voting. On a server listing website, voting acts as a way for players to say they enjoy your server. The more votes that your server has, the more likely it will be that more players will join to see what your Minecraft server has to offer. Along with having more players, your current players will earn rewards for voting, which you can customize to best fit your server. To get started, set up Votifier and vote rewards using this guide, and boost your server above the rest!

Pay to Feature Your Minecraft Server on a Server List

With a Minecraft server list comes another powerful benefit that many websites offer called “Sponsored Server Listings”. A sponsored listing is one where Minecraft server owners can pay to have their server displayed at the very top of the list. Here is an example of the sponsored section of the “best-minecraft-servers.co” server listing website:

    sponsored server listing websites

When displayed at the top, players will be able to see everything your server is about including the IP address. From there, they can quickly copy and paste your server IP into Minecraft to join and begin playing. In no time, you can have a large number of players joining and adventuring in your Minecraft game server world!

Social Media Websites, Your Own Website, and Discord

Another great place to advertise your server is directly on social media, Discord, or your own website. This provides you and your players with a single place to share and learn about the latest news and happenings on your server. Whether that’s tournaments you may be hosting, links to your voting websites so that players can get rewards or even a free giveaway of items.

Alongside posts, Discord and your own website can give players a place to discuss. Discussions often include opinions about the server, new rewards players have found, their favorite moments on the server, and much more. This can lead to other players joining in the posts to talk and share their own adventures, leading to players becoming closer to the server. To get started, create a social media account, Discord server, or website and start posting about your server – and don’t forget to invite your current Minecraft players to join and stay active!

Streaming, YouTube, and TikTok Minecraft Server Content

Often when a player is looking for a great server to join, they want to see the server and the reason they should join and give it a try. To help players make this decision, seeing your Minecraft server in action is one of the best ways to advertise your server. In video content, you can display anything on your server from builds players have created to minigame madness with your fellow players. Creating a streaming, YouTube, or TikTok account only takes a few minutes and right after, you can begin posting server content.

streaming to bring more players to your server

Once that content is online, anyone interested in Minecraft will be able to come across your content, see your server, and they may just join. Consistency is key with posting content and the more you regularly post, the more followers, new viewers, and Minecraft players will see your server content. Eventually, those viewers will start to convert to players that will join to explore the server they’ve been seeing in your content. Before long, you’ll have a powerful content platform and amazing growth on your Minecraft server!

    Issues You May Face

Advertising before your server is ready

When you’re first advertising your server, many players will likely join and play. Due to this, it’s important to ensure your server is ready for more players. This includes ensuring your spawn is properly protected, that your server plugins are set up correctly and that the server experience is fully prepared for players to enjoy. Below are examples of what can occur when your server isn’t ready for advertising and how to prevent those issues.

    Griefing or Hacking

Griefing and hacking are methods used by players to attempt to destroy the server so that it cannot be properly repaired. This can result in server builds being broken and even player builds. To ensure that your spawn and builds on the server are protected, we recommend a few different plugins to help stop griefing and hacking:

    • WorldGuard | A powerful world protection plugin, WorldGuard allows you to select and protect specific regions and builds on your server. Additionally, WorldGuard works with other plugins such as AreaShop to allow for renting plots on a server. This is especially great for survival, PVP, and creative-based Minecraft servers.
    • CoreProtect | The #1 anti-griefing plugin available, CoreProtect logs everything from blocks placed, to blocks put inside chests, and more. If griefing ever occurs, you can roll back that grief with CoreProtect and find out exactly who did it.

    DDoS Attacks

DDoS attacks are malicious attempts to stop your server by overwhelming the traffic on your server and its network. When they occur, they can shut down your server entirely. Therefore, your server must be ready to stop DDoS attacks.

One of the best ways to prevent DDoS attacks is by running your Minecraft server through a server hosting website. In particular, our server hosting at Nitrado has built-in SteelShield DDoS protection which can stop any DDoS attack in its tracks. Protected with DDoS protection, you will not need to worry about attacks and you can focus on server advertising without concern!
