What Is DayZ Badlands?

DayZ Badlands is a paid expansion for DayZ from Bohemia Interactive. It adds Nasdara Province, a fully inland desert map, and follows DayZ Frostline as the game’s second expansion.

Nasdara Province is the star of the show. At 267 km², the DayZ Badlands map size makes it the largest official DayZ map, and it was built from the ground up instead of being ported from an older map. This fully inland desert sits west of Chernarus on the western frontier of Takistan, with shifting sands to the east and jagged mountains to the west.

Years of proxy wars have left the Badlands map in DayZ scarred, which means plenty of places to loot and fight over:

• Cities: Dense, Middle Eastern-style cities to scavenge and defend.
• Military Sites: Crumbling Soviet-era bases left behind by the wars.
• Historical Sites: Abandoned landmarks scattered across the desert.
• Oil Infrastructure: Modern oil drills and refineries, a reminder of the resources the wars were fought over.
• Highways: Long roads that stretch across the map from east to west.

Survive the Heat

Water is the real currency in Nasdara. The arid spring climate brings droughts, and the common wells did not survive the war, so every drop matters. Badlands adds new ways to adapt:

• Rebuilding: Repair broken buildings and wells and bring them back into use, turning ruins into places worth defending.
• Desert Gear: New region-specific clothing, such as perahan shirts, plus new items and firearms made for the climate.
• Wildlife and Infected: Region-specific infected variants and wildlife tailored to the desert.
• Motorcycles: Motorcycles are coming to DayZ on all maps, not only Nasdara.

What Could Come to DayZ Badlands

Bohemia has not shown everything yet, so here is what we are speculating could be introduced with the DLC, based on the desert setting and the early teasers:

• Sandstorms and Dynamic Weather: A sandstorm could roll across Nasdara, cut your visibility, and force you to find shelter.
• Staged Well Rebuilding: Wells could be rebuilt in several stages using materials like planks, nails, and stones.
• Desert Animals: Camels and gazelles could roam the dunes, alongside other wildlife that fits the setting.
• More Vehicles: More wheeled vehicles, such as dune buggies or pickup trucks, could help you cross the sand.
