On Sons Of The Forest, you’ll fight against terrifying mutants searching for a billionaire. To survive in this harsh environment, you must collect resources, build a shelter and create powerful equipment and weapons. Sometimes though, these harsh conditions can prove to be near impossible, and with that, you may feel the want to edit certain Sons Of The Forest server settings and options to customize and improve your game. These give you a lot of freedom in designing your server, from the server name to the difficulty, gamemode, the save file, and more. In this guide, we will cover all of the Sons Of The Forest settings you can adjust and what they’ll do on your Sons Of The Forest server!
How to Edit Your Sons Of The Forest Server Settings
If you want to edit your Sons Of The Forest server settings, you must first log in to the Nitrado website and navigate to your Sons Of The Forest server. Below you will find an overview of your server and the settings that you can adjust to your liking.
Sons Of The Forest Web interface Overview
In the upper-left corner of your web interface, you will find an overview of the most important server data. Besides the current game, you will find the following information:
UserID: This is the ID of your Nitrado account.
IP: This is the complete IP of your server. You will need this if you want to connect to your server.
Game port: The port is a part of your IP. It is displayed with the IP after the colon.
Query port: The query port is needed instead of the game port to join the server in some games.
Players: Here you can see how many players can play on your server and how many slots are currently occupied.
Current Map: This shows you which map is currently being played. In a game like ARK: SE, this can vary.
Version: This is the version of the game that is installed on the server. Make sure that the version of your game and the server match.
Just below that, you can find the server settings. There you will find the general settings, configuration profiles, and configuration files. We will go into the settings in more detail below. In your configuration files, you will find the SonsGameSettings.cfg, the dedicatedserver.cfg, and the ownerswhitelist.txt files.
A bit further down, you can see the tools of the server. Here you can click through the files in the file browser and install your own game files. Furthermore, you can restore backups if something goes wrong on your server or create automated tasks. An example of this includes server restarts or turning off the server at a specific time.
General – Sons Of The Forest Server Settings
Now let’s jump into the Sons Of The Forest server settings. If you click on “General” under “Settings” in your web interface, you’ll end up here. In your basic settings, you can do the following:
Server name: Enter your server name here.
Server password: If you want to protect your server with a password, please enter it here.
World Settings
You also have plenty of options to customize your server in the world settings. Here, you have the following options:
Save Mode:
“Continue” – Continue using the current save or create a new one if it doesn’t exist.
“New” – Create a new save with the currently select Save Slot and Game Mode.
Save Slot: The Save Slot used when creating a new save file.
Game Mode: Sets the difficulty game mode when creating a new save. This parameter is ignored if loading a save. If the game mode is set to “custom”, then the custom game mode settings will be read from CustomGameModeSettings option, which has to be edited in the file directly.
Save Interval: How often the game server automatically saves the game to Save Slot, in seconds.
Idle Day Cycle Speed: A multiplier to how quickly the time passes compared to normal gameplay when the server is considered idle (no player connected).
Idle Target Framerate: Target framerate of the server when it’s considered idle (no player connected).
Active Target Framerate: Target framerate of the server when it’s NOT considered idle. (one or more player are connected)
