Configure Plugins Which Need a MySQL Database

In some cases, plugins on your Minecraft server might require or recommend using a MySQL database. Whether you’re hosting a network or a large server, having a standalone database can help with seamless data synchronization and performance with heavy plugins. However, the process to configure your plugin can be challenging for newcomers. Due to this, we’ve created this Nitrado guide to show you how to set up a MySQL database for a plugin on your Minecraft server 👏

How to Access Your MySQL Database

Your Nitrado server already has a MySQL database via phpMyAdmin. This is accessible from your Dashboard, along with the login credentials. This information is what you need to use when setting up plugins. Here’s how you can view that and access the database:

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface Dashboard.
2. Scroll down, and locate the MySQL Credentials area.
   
   You can view all the details of your database here.
3. Click phpMyAdmin at the top to access it.
   
4. From here, you can see databases and everything else.

 
⚠️ SSL is not being used. This does not impact the security of your server data.

How to Configure Plugins with MySQL

The exact configuration for your plugin might look different than our example, but the process is the same. You need to fill in the settings with your MySQL login credentials and database info.
 
Here’s a plugin config example:

mysql: 
   port: 3306 
   host: localhost 
   password: pass 
   user: username 
   database: minecraft

 
Replace everything with your MySQL credentials, such as username, password, and host.
 
Here’s what it should look like when you’re finished:

mysql: 
   port: 3306 
   host: ms3773.gamedata.io
   password: 7kP2mXqR
   user: ni8109140_4_DB
   database: ni8109140_4_DB

 
If your plugin configuration includes quotation marks for the values, make sure to include them when entering your information. For instance, password: “7kP2mXqR” would be a format that some plugins use rather than having no quotation marks. The golden rule is to follow the format shown in the config, all you need to do is enter your MySQL login credentials.
 
When you’re finished setting up the configuration, save the changes and restart the server. That’s all you need to do! The plugin will handle the rest, creating tables and using your database as intended. You can also confirm in the Live Server Console that the database was successfully connected by the plugin.
