How to Fix Server Restart Loops in Windrose

How to Fix Server Restart Loops in Windrose

In some cases, your Windrose server can be stuck in a restart loop. This means the server will constantly be in a state of trying to get online. World data desynchronization or corruption during a save cycle can cause this situation. With this in mind, we’ve created this Nitrado guide to show you how to fix restart loops in your Windrose server – so you and others can connect 👏

Rent Your Own Winrose Server Hosting

Step 1: Download Your World Data

Before making any changes, you must retrieve your current world from the server. You can do this by using an FTP client like FileZilla, a third-party program to access files.

    1. Open FileZilla and set the Transfer Mode to Binary.
    2. Navigate to your Nitrado Web Interface, then locate the FTP Credentials in the Dashboard.
    3. Use the Hostname, Port, Username, and Password to login via FileZilla.
    4. Go to: /Windrose/R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB/0.10.0/Worlds
    5. Download the entire world folder to your computer for later.

Step 2: Fixing the Save Locally

When you load the world into your local game, this allows the engine to repair data issues to secure the save state. You will need to find your SteamID to locate the specific folder.

    1. On your computer, locate your game directory: %LocalAppData%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\[SteamID]\RocksDB\0.10.0\Worlds
    2. Place the world folder you downloaded from the server into this local directory.
    3. Launch Windrose and load into this world you’ve transferred.
    4. Play for several minutes and exit the game to trigger a clean save of your world.

Make sure to replace “[SteamID]” with your Steam account’s ID to get the right directory.

    Step 3: Reinstall & Transfer

A clean installation of Windrose on your server will ensure any issues are removed. This will prepare the server for your fixed world to be transferred.

    1. Perform a Reinstall of your Windrose server via the Nitrado Web Interface.
    2. Once the installation finishes, stop the server immediately.
    3. Reconnect via FileZilla and upload your fixed world folder back to: /Windrose/R5/Saved/SaveProfiles/Default/RocksDB/0.10.0/Worlds
    4. Make sure you wait until everything is successfully transferred.
    5. Once that’s completed, keep your server offline for the next step.

    Step 4: Final Configuration

The server needs to know exactly which world file to prioritize upon startup.

    1. Locate the serverdescription.json file in your server’s main directory.
    2. Inside of the file, find the setting labeled WorldIslandID.
    3. Ensure the value matches the exact name of your fixed world folder.
    4. Save the changes and start up your server, then join.

If successful, the Windrose server restart loops are fixed and you can connect! You’re now primed for a smooth stable experience, so invite your friends and begin the adventure once again. We strongly recommend making backups of your world(s), just in-case.

If unsuccessful, then make sure you downloaded the correct world folder from your server. Ensure you entered the correct “[SteamID]” directory to transfer your server world. Play in this world for a few extra minutes so the game engine can secure a clean save state. Double-check that you’ve reinstalled Windrose on your Nitrado Web Interface and fully stopped the server before transferring back the fixed world to the server. You also want to ensure the serverdescription.json file has your exact world name in the WorldIslandID parameter.
