Using a Nitrado server offers many great perks to ensure you can establish and manage the perfect server for your friends and other players who join! Managing your server is so important and Nitrado has your back by ensuring you have the tools to get anything done so that you can create the best experience for your server and players!
In the strong toolset that comes with your server, you will have easy access to your server files, configuration files, and settings through a simple and powerful File Browser UI to customize every aspect of your server and enhance the amusement for your players and community. In this tutorial, we will show you how to access your server files and modify your server settings so that you can start your custom game server adventure!
Note: If you’re using a console or our Nitrado App from the Microsoft Store, you will need to access your Web Interface to manage the FTP.
In the File Browser, you will find all of the files for your Game Server including core server files, setting files, log files, and important data including your world and player data.
In the File Browser, you can navigate your folders by clicking on them to enter them. You are able to edit files by clicking on that specific file.
When you need to go back through your File Browser, you can click the home icon or a specific folder listed above your files to go back to that specific area.
Upon selecting the “Upload file” option, you can select and upload files directly to your server files. After selecting a file to upload, depending on the size it can take a few moments for the file to be fully uploaded into that area in your File Browser.
Using the “Create new file” button, you can create brand new files in your Nitrado FTP in many different formats including .txt, .json, .yml, .config, .properties, and more.
The delete option allows you to permanently delete any unneeded from your server.
The rename button lets you set a new name for an existing file in your File Browser.
The copy option adds that file with an “Actions” section at the bottom of your File Browser. You are then able to move freely around your File Browser to a different location where you would like to move or copy that file. Once you are in that new location, select that “Actions <Filename>” dropdown and you can select “Move here“, “Copy here“, or “Cancel” to complete that action.
Using this icon, you are able to download any standalone files on your server directly to your computer. This is a fantastic option for taking your own file backups.
Your Nitrado game server offers full access to your server files using your preferred external FTP program through FTP Credentials you can use to log in to those programs. Some examples of these programs include FileZilla, WinSCP, and Cyberduck. We will explore how to gather your FTP Credentials and how to log in to an FTP program with FileZilla and WinSCP.
These will be the credentials needed to log in to your File Browser through an external FTP program.
You should consider that some users experience issues and data corruption when using FileZilla. If this is your case, we recommend using another FTP program like WinSCP.
FTP programs make it a quick process to upload files and folders. Simply drag and drop the file or folder you’re looking to upload and depending on the size of those files, it will take a few moments to upload that file. You will then be able to see that file in your server files on your FTP program.
When you right-click, you are able to use the “Create new file” and “Create directory” options to create any necessary files and/or folders on your server in any supported formats.
Remove unwanted files from your server by right-clicking on that particular file and then selecting the “Delete” option.
When you need to rename files, right-click and select the “Rename” option. You can then type in the new name for that file and press the “Enter” key to confirm that renaming.
Moving files allows for a quick and efficient way to get your files from one location to another. To do this select, drag, and drop that particular file to the new location. That file will take a few moments to move and then will appear in that new area.
Downloading a file allows you to store a copy on your computer and edit that file directly on your PC. Right-click on the particular file you wish to download and then press the “Download” option to begin that download. Depending on the file size and your internet download speed, this can take some time to fully download if the file is larger.
For your convenience, both options are available so that you can pick exactly what works best for you. The built-in File Browser created by our team at Nitrado offers blazing fast edits without using an external program while an FTP program offers a more personalized approach to accessing your files directly on your computer.
Changes not occurring properly can often be an issue with either your login or the website session you’re currently using if your browser becomes very inactive. Re-logging in or refreshing your website page will resolve that if this ever happens!
This particular issue can occur when the login information you’re using for the FTP information is incorrect. You will often see errors including “530 Login incorrect.” and “Critical error: Could not connect to server” when your login fails to work. Check your Nitrado FTP credentials again and ensure that everything is typed correctly in your FTP Program including the port. This will ensure you can then access your files through that FTP program!
