Minecraft’s endless content takes players to all sorts of unique custom worlds and servers to play and build on. Everything from minigame battles in Survival Games and Skywars arena maps to RPG servers built upon magical powers from Minecraft plugins. With so much to explore, especially if you’re running your own adventure Minecraft server, it’s important to be able to protect your server. One way to do this is with a Minecraft plugin – the powerful AuthMe plugin!

AuthMe Reloaded is a lock and key style plugin for Minecraft servers used to secure servers to prevent bot attacks and username spoofing. This includes restricting users, IP addresses, and entire countries. Along with that, new account protections like email recovery, two-factor authentication, and user logs give you and your players peace of mind and account safety.

The Authme plugin is great for all Minecraft servers whether they’re using offline mode or online mode in your server settings. While offline mode is not recommended on Minecraft servers due to exploits such as account spoofing that can occur from disabling Mojang’s Authentication, AuthMe will provide much greater protection when used. Now that you know more about the AuthMe plugin, are you ready to improve your server’s protection? Below, learn how you can install and use the AuthMe plugin on your Minecraft game server!
Your server will need to be able to support Minecraft plugins, which will require using a support Minecraft server type such as Bukkit/Spigot. To begin, ensure that your server is set to “Minecraft (Bukkit/Spigot)”. If you’re unsure if your server is set up correctly, you can press “SWITCH GAME” at the bottom left of your server panel to verify.

After AuthMe has been installed, you can start using the plugin right away. For everyone joining the server, upon joining players will need to register to play on your server. To register on a server, players can use the command /register <password>.

Upon registering, every time that player logs in they’ll need to use the command /login <password> to authenticate and play on the server. Your server and players are now protected!

The commands and permissions listed lower in this guide will help show you, your players, and your admins how to use more advanced features of AuthMe!
Once the AuthMe plugin is installed on your Minecraft server, there are some settings and files you can edit to customize the plugin further. From main server settings to plugin messages and emails the plugin will send players. We’ll show you how to find your AuthMe setting files and the most important settings and messages you can edit in these files!

The messages_en.yml, found in the “messages” folder for AuthMe, allows you to set various messages for the plugin. The types of messages you can edit in AuthMe include:
Alongside these messages, the files “email.html” and “welcome.txt” also include text that can be customized for players joining and using two-factor authentication or account recovery.
By default, any player that joins your server will gain access to these commands and permissions from the AuthMe plugin.
| Command | Permission Node | Description |
|---|---|---|
| /register <password> | authme.register | Register yourself on the server. |
| /login <password> | authme.login | Login to the server using your registered password. |
| /logout | authme.logout | Logout from the server. |
| /changepassword <oldPW> <newPW> | authme.changepassword | Change the password set for the server. |

To utilize permissions with the AuthMe plugin, we recommend using a permissions plugin. In particular, the plugin LuckPerms is highly recommended and contains a detailed wiki on how to set up permissions. You can follow the steps above for “How to Install AuthMe” to also install the plugin LuckPerms.
Once LuckPerms is installed, you can use these commands to set permissions:
With AuthMe installed, your server will now be protected and unstoppable. No matter if players attempt bot attacks or account spoofing, your server will stop them in their tracts. This ensures that you, your friends, and fellow Minecraft players can enjoy your server without interruption. If you do not yet have AuthMe installed, install the plugin today and secure your Minecraft server!
