How to Fix ‘Timed Out’ in Minecraft

How to Fix ‘Timed Out’ in Minecraft

While joining or playing on a Minecraft server, your connection can suddenly be interrupted. One of the most famous cases is the ‘Timed Out’ error message, with no real indication of why it happened. Likewise, there isn’t a direct solution to fix the problem. However, there are multiple ways to try to resolve the error so you can start playing again. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll showcase the different methods to fix the ‘Timed Out’ connection issue in Minecraft. Let’s begin!

    Solutions for ‘Timed Out’

The following solutions range from restarting your launcher to rebooting your router. This means that there is a wide range of options to try out, as all of them have proven to work. It boils down to your specific situation, which can be unique compared to others. With this in mind, consider trying any of these fixes to see if they work for you.

    Reboot Launcher

Close down Minecraft and reboot the launcher to see if that fixed the ‘Timed Out’ issue. We strongly recommend forcibly shutting down the application from Task Manager on Windows or Activity Monitor on MacOS. Afterwards, open the Minecraft launcher and join the server to see if that helped.

    1. Shut down the Minecraft launcher via Task Manager or Activity Monitor.
    2. Open the client afterwards and join the Minecraft server with your account.

    Restart Server

If you and other players are having the same problem, then see about restarting the Minecraft server. This can be quickly done on your Nitrado Web-interface, near the top of the page. Wait for everything to come online again, then try to join.

    1. Head towards your Nitrado web interface, then click Restart Server near the top.
    2. Wait for it to come online again, then join the server with your Minecraft account.

In cases where the server is unable to start, contact our Support Team for assistance.

    Direct Connection

Instead of joining with an added server in your list, consider using the “Direct Connection” method. This requires the IP Address:Port / Subdomain of your Minecraft server. It can help troubleshoot connection issues, including the ‘Timed Out’ error.

    1. Open Minecraft and navigate to your server list, then click Direct Connection.
    2. Enter the IP Address:Port or Subdomain and join using that with your account.

    RandomPatches Mod

In cases where you’re running a Forge or Fabric Minecraft server and encountering the ‘Timed Out’ error, consider installing RandomPatches (Forge version / Fabric version). This mod is only available for Forge 1.8 to 1.16.5 and Fabric 1.15.2 to 1.16.5. However, it can significantly improve your connection and in-game experience. It’s been known to help clear up the ‘Timed Out’ error message.

    1. Download and Install the RandomPatches mod for your Minecraft server.
    2. Afterwards, make sure to install it on your Minecraft launcher too.
    3. Proceed to join the server with your account to see if that worked.

    Other Solutions

If the above methods didn’t resolve the ‘Timed Out’ connection issue for Minecraft, then you still have a few options to try out. These can involve troubleshooting your firewall, antivirus, router, and other external applications. We strongly encourage you to proceed with caution, as messing around with delicate connection settings on your device can be damaging if done incorrectly.

Essentially, you want to pinpoint anything that might interrupt your connection to a Minecraft server. It might be as simple as clearing your DNS Cache or double-checking your firewall. If you’re uncertain about anything, it’s best to do your own research before anything.

Conclusion – Fixing ‘Timed Out’ Errors

There are many ways to fix the connection issue, with some being easy while others are more challenging. Go through the list and see what works best for you! If nothing seems to be working, then the problem may be related to your computer’s connection setup. Whether it’s the router or firewall, they can interfere with joining a Minecraft server. We hope this guide helped you fix the ‘Timed Out’ connection issue for Minecraft so you can once again play with friends on a multiplayer server!
