Chivalry 2 is quite an enjoyable game, with its bounty of awesome medieval combat and superb game mechanics that promote a high skill ceiling. As a new player or Chivalry 2 server owner though, where do you start? There are tons of different gamemodes from objective-based modes to deathmatches that all have their own parts of the community that enjoy them. Today, we’ll be going over all of the gamemodes you can find in Chivalry 2, how they play, and which one might be the right one for you and your server. Let’s begin!
Chivalry 2 has many gamemodes, but some have more focus than others. This list will be in the order of priority given by the developers, which usually goes hand in hand with the player population.
Team Objective (or TO) maps cast one of the three sides – Masons, Agathians, or Tenosians – as attackers who must accomplish a series of objectives within a limited amount of time. The other side plays the role of the defenders who must prevent the attackers from succeeding. There can be anywhere from four to eight objectives on each TO map, and for the attackers to win, they need to accomplish all objectives on the map successfully. For the defenders to win, they only need to successfully defend one objective.
Objectives can be anything from capturing a checkpoint, pushing a payload, destroying an important landmark, stealing a series of resources, escaping an area, burning a building, or straight-up slaying a VIP! Usually, the first few objectives are very easy for the attackers to take, but as the map progresses, objectives become more defense-sided, with the idea being that most matches make it to the final objective with the final objective being fairly balanced between both attackers and defenders. Each objective has a timer that determines how long the attackers have to complete the objective, or how long the defenders need to defend it. If the attackers complete an objective, the timer is reset, giving the attackers more time to complete the next objective. Unlike other games, however, the time is not merely added to the timer upon objective completion, rather, each objective has its own independent timer. This means that there is no benefit to completing an objective faster or slower than the allotted time. So no pressure! You can play this mode by selecting the 64-player TO queue.
Maps Included:
40 Player Team Objective is essentially the same thing as 64 Player Team Objective, except obviously the team size is brought down from 32 players for each team to 20 players for each team. Furthermore, horses are enabled for all maps that are compatible with them. You can play this mode by selecting the 40-Player Mixed Modes queue.
Maps Included:
Team Deathmatch is as simple as it gets! You and your team are placed opposite of the enemy team with the sole purpose of ending each other’s lives before the timer runs out! TDM runs on a ticket system, so the only way to win is to make the enemy expend all of their respawn tickets before the timer runs out. Assuming the timer runs out before either team runs out of respawns, the team with the larger amount of tickets wins. From what I notice, this is usually how matches end.
What’s interesting about Team Deathmatch is that there is no way to play it or queue for it by itself. Team Deathmatch can only be played by selecting the 40-Player Mixed Modes queue.
Maps Included:
Fight to be the final team alive in a round-based fighting mode, a returning favorite from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare! LTS is a more competitive, hardcore version of Team Deathmatch. Instead of using a ticket system, LTS spawns both teams opposite of each other and has NO RESPAWNS. The last team standing wins the round! The first team to reach five round wins takes the match!
This is the most popular gamemode in the competitive community, as it puts an emphasis on playing your life and empowers those who value individual skill. You can only play this mode by using the server browser and joining a Last Team Standing server.
Maps included:
Need I say more? In Free For All, it’s every man for themselves! No teams, no banners, no coat of arms! You fight for yourself and nobody else. Everyone spawns in random places all over the map, and there are no teams. There are also no assists, with this mode tracking only kills, which means getting the last hit on an enemy. The first player to reach the max kill count wins, with that number usually being somewhere from 35-42 depending on the player count of the server.
Occasionally, the Free For All queue can be found on the home screen, but in the meantime, you can only play this mode by using the server browser and joining a Free For All server.
Maps Included:
Arena is its own dedicated area of the game menu that has two queues dedicated to it, that being 1v1 and 3v3. In these modes, you are placed into a sectioned-off area of Tournament Grounds, Courtyard, or The Fighting Pit in a small-scale version of Last Team Standing. Like Last Team Standing, both teams spawn opposite each other with no respawns, and the first team to reach five rounds wins the match. The only difference between the queues, as you might have guessed, is the amount of players on each team. 1v1 Arena is essentially a duel that is set first to five, and 3v3 Arena is just Last Team Standing, except with each team having three members.
Players can use any class, including archer, but do not have access to their charged abilities. You can also join matches in progress, but unlike Team Objective or Team Deathmatch, this mode does not autofill with bots. This is somewhat of an issue, as these modes have a massive issue with leavers ruining lobbies, but in any case, these modes are very fun! If you’re looking to improve your individual skills, Arena is the best! You can play 1v1 or 3v3 Arena by selecting the Arena section and selecting 1v1 or 3v3 Arena.
Maps Included:
That’s all of the gamemodes you can experience in Chivalry 2! Whether you’re in it for the large-scale medieval battlefields of Team Objective, or you’re looking for a more personal testament of individual skill in the Arena, there’s something for everyone. You can personally catch me in the Last Team Standing lobbies. Try the gamemodes of your choice today by setting them on your own Chivalry 2 game server!
