Using The Curseforge Launcher

-
- On the CurseForge Launcher after selecting “Minecraft”, click the “Browse Modpacks” option to view the different modpacks on CurseForge.
-
- Once you have found the modpack you’d like to play with, press the “Install” button. That modpack will begin installing its files and mods to the CurseForge Launcher.
-
- Within a few moments, that modpack will be installed. You can view your installed modpacks by pressing the “My Modpacks” option at the top.
-
- To start a modpack, hover over that modpack and press “Play”. This will open your regular Minecraft launcher, set up and ready to play that modpack you selected.
- Lastly, with Minecraft open and the modpack selected, press “Play” once more to start playing that modpack!
How To Create A Custom Modpack
-
- In the CurseForge Launcher after selecting “Minecraft”, at the top press the “Create Custom Profile” option.
-
- You’ll now be able to create a custom profile for the modpack where you can set the name, Minecraft version, and game type. In our example, we’re selecting Minecraft 1.19.2 on Forge 43.1.1.
-
- Once everything is set, press “Create” to create that custom modpack profile. The modpack will then appear in your “My Modpacks” section on the CurseForge launcher.
- You will need to click on that specific modpack profile that you just created.
- In that custom modpack profile, press the “Add More Content” option. This is where you’ll be able to install mods, resource packs, and maps to your custom modpack profile using CurseForge.
-
- Scroll through and install the mods, resource packs, and maps you’d like to use by pressing the “Install” button next to those.
- During this process, you’ll want to ensure that you check the mods that are installed to ensure they are compatible and have all other dependencies installed. This will ensure those mods will run correctly.
- Once you’re finished installing mods, press the “X” at the top-right to go back.
- You can now start your modpack and begin your own custom modpack journey!
Exporting A Modpack For Your Friends And Others
-
- While on the CurseForge Launcher for Minecraft, click on the modpack that you are looking to export.
- Press the three dots next to the “Play” option and then click “Export Profile” to begin exporting the modpack.
-
- An “Export Profile” window will appear. You can add a custom “Profile Name” and unique “Package Version” to the modpack export. Additionally, you can select which files and folders are included in the export. The export will, by default, auto-select the best files to export with the modpack.
-
- Once all of the options are set and ready, press “Export”. This will open your file browser, where you can select a location to save the modpack export as a .zip file.
- Proceed to scroll through your files and select a safe location to save the export. If you’re unsure, “Desktop” is a great place to save the export as it’ll show up directly on the home screen of your computer.
- The modpack export will complete, saving that modpack .zip file export to your computer.
- With that modpack export in hand, you can now share that with your friends or even try to publish your modpack to the public for others to enjoy!
Now that you know how to export modpacks for sharing, it’s important to know how to import those modpacks to CurseForge Launcher. Importing a modpack will ensure you, your friends and fellow Minecraft players will be able to share the same mods and settings for that modpack. With everything matching due to the modpack important, everyone will be able to play together without issues on a Minecraft game server!
Importing An Existing Modpack
-
- Firstly, open the CurseForge Launcher and ensure Minecraft is selected for the game.
- Next, in the “My Modpacks” section press the “Create Custom Profile” button.
-
- Afterwards, near the top of the “Create Profile” window, you’ll see a message “Or import a previously created profile”. Press on the word “import” to begin a modpack import on CurseForge Launcher.
-
- Selecting the import option will open your computer file browser. Search for the modpack export .zip file you’re looking to import, select that file, and then click “Open”.
-
- The modpack you selected to import will now create a profile in your CurseForge Launcher’s “My Modpacks” section named after the exported file. That modpack will then install all mods and files included in that modpack export. Depending on the size of the modpack and your internet connection download speed, this may take some time.
- Once the modpack has completed importing, hover over the modpack and press “Play” to start your custom imported modpack exploration!
Adjusting Curseforge Launcher Settings
CurseForge Launcher is highly customizable, offering powerful modpack management and the ability to change settings for those modpacks. Along with customizing modpacks, CurseForge Launcher also features the ability to edit its own settings to enhance the launcher. The enhancements you can perform for the CurseForge Launcher include increasing allocated RAM, resolution, debug logs, and even adding additional arguments for Minecraft. You can adjust your CurseForge Launcher settings by following these steps:
-
- While the CurseForge Launcher is open, select the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom left-hand corner of the launcher. This will open the CurseForge launcher settings.
-
- CurseForge Launcher has its own settings including language and subscription options. We’ll be focusing on the “Game Specific” settings section and we’ll need to select “Minecraft” under that section.
- Inside the CurseForge Launcher Minecraft settings, you’ll be able to edit the following options:
- Minecraft Modding Folder – Adjust where the CurseForge Launcher files and modpack files are stored on your computer.
- Preferred Release – Use the dropdown to change the version of the CurseForge Launcher that you’re using. There are currently “Release (Recommended)”, “Beta”, and “Alpha” options available.
- Game Resolution – Determine if the CurseForge Launcher should use your desktop’s resolution or a custom resolution.
- Launcher
- When the game starts – Set if the CurseForge Launcher should remain open or if it should close after starting a modpack.
- Advanced
- Enable Forge debug.log – Enabling this open will result in CurseForge Launcher/Minecraft creating a more useful debug.log file. The debug log is helpful for better investigating the causes of a modpack profile crashing.
- Java Settings
- Allocated Memory – Using the slider, you can determine how much memory/RAM is allocated to your modpacks when using CurseForge Launcher.
- Java version used for installing Forge modloader – In cases where a modpack may require a custom Java version, this option allows you to specify and use those Java version files.
- Additional Arguments – If custom Minecraft arguments are needed, you can add those arguments in this setting.
- Finally, after adjusting all of the settings for CurseForge Launcher, back out and you can now begin playing modpacks with your newly adjusted settings.
