How to Turn On Keep Inventory in Minecraft

How to Turn On Keep Inventory in Minecraft

While playing in Minecraft, you may lose all your items from creepers, skeletons, or other mobs. This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you have important items in your inventory. Whether they are enchanted equipment, valuable ores, or something else – it can be a problem when you lose all of that. With this in mind, wouldn’t you want to keep all your items in case you die? Many players would say yes, leading them to find ways to do that. Fortunately, Minecraft has features that allow you to do just that! In this Nitrado tutorial, we’ll be showing you how to keep inventory on in Minecraft – for both Java and Bedrock Edition. Let’s get started!

    Minecraft: Java Edition

Whether you’re playing singleplayer or on a multiplayer server, keeping your inventory is possible! Depending on your specific setup, follow along below to begin enabling this feature.

    Singleplayer

    1. Open Minecraft and create a new world with cheats enabled.
    2. While in-game, run the following command: /gamerule keepInventory true

    3. After doing that, you will keep all items upon death in-game.

If you have an existing world, then open it to LAN – allowing you to enable cheat commands. This will provide you with the needed permissions to run the gamerule command.

    Multiplayer

    1. Head towards your Nitrado web-interface, then click Live Server Console.

    2. Proceed to enter “op [player]”, with your username.
      Example: op User123

    3. Afterward, you can join the server and run /gamerule keepInventory true in-chat.

    Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

Similar to Java, you can keep inventory on Bedrock for both singleplayer and multiplayer. The process is slightly different, but nonetheless will achieve the same result. Follow below to start!

    Singleplayer

    1. Open Minecraft and find your desired world, then click the edit button.
    2. Select Cheats and enable it at the top – afterwards toggle Keep Inventory.

    3. Load the world and your inventory will be kept upon death in-game.

    Multiplayer

    1. Head towards your Nitrado web-interface, then click Live Server Console.

    2. Proceed to enter “op [player]”, with your username.

    3. Afterward, you can join the server and run /gamerule keepInventory true in-chat.

Keep Inventory – Cheats or Not?

While Mojang considers keep inventory as a cheat, many players do not. Unfortunately, Bedrock Edition faces the worst of it since cheats are required to be enabled. This means achievements will not be allowed, ruining the fun for those who seek them. Meanwhile on Java Edition, you can still obtain advancements with keep inventory on. Technically this feature is a cheat, but isn’t entirely accepted by the community. Keeping all your items upon death is normal for some, as they wouldn’t want to lose anything.

Regardless, you can try this on your own Minecraft server! Invite friends and never worry about losing items again.
