How to Set Up a Dune: Awakening Server

After buying your own Dune: Awakening server, setting it up is easy.

There are only a handful of settings to tweak, as your private world is part of something much bigger. Imagine a bunch of servers connected together and you’re able to interact with players from them. The only options to edit will impact your private world, nothing else.

With that in mind, setting up your own Dune: Awakening server is simple! In this Nitrado guide, we’ll explain what each setting does and walk you through the process to make changes.

Dune: Awakening Server Settings

There are a few settings that you can edit: server name, password, sandstorms, security zones, taxation, and message of the day. There is no file access for your Dune private server, which is intentional. Due to the game’s design, you’re limited to a few options to configure. There is one setting that you cannot edit, which is the World System or “Battle Group” name.

How to Edit Server Settings

1. Head towards your Nitrado web interface, then navigate to Settings > General to the left side of your screen.




2. Proceed to change any of the options, such as the server name or password.




3. When you’re finished, click Save Changes near the bottom and Restart the server.
4. Join your Dune: Awakening server to confirm if the changes were applied.

Sandstorm Customization

For those that want to adjust the damage caused by sandstorms, you can do that by enabling advanced settings. Whether you want to change the damage to players or buildings, you can do that. Here’s a breakdown of them and some ideas to think about 👇
 
Advanced Sandstorm Settings:

• Damage to Players: 0–15 (default: 5)
• Damage to Vehicles: 0–15 (default: 5)
• Damage to Buildings: 0–2000 (default: 5)
• Damage to Placeables: 0–500 (default: 5)

 
Customization ideas:

• No damage at all → set all to 0 (immersion without effects)
• Safe bases → Buildings = 0
• Gentle on vehicles → Vehicles = 1–2
• Clear abandoned bases → Buildings = 2000 + Placeables = 500

 
Remember, you can change these settings at any given time!

Dune Server Setup – FAQ

Can I Change My World Assignment?
Yes, we have added a feature which will allow you to change your Dune: Awakening server to another world. Please refer to our guide here on how you can do this.

Do Sandstorms Impact Gameplay?
Yes, they impact visibility, movement, and damage players if they’re caught in one. Additionally, buildings with inactive shields will get damaged too. Toggle this feature based on your group’s preferences.

What do Security Zones Control?
This feature allows you to toggle between global PvP combat and designated PvP areas in the server. In other words, if you want fighting all over the place – disable this option in the settings.

Why Are The Changes Not Working?
After editing the Dune: Awakening server settings and nothing changed, ensure you’re restarting the server. This is required for any changes to apply! We recommend restarting when no one is online.

Why are there fewer settings compared to other titles?
The number of available settings in Dune: Awakening is a result of its unique world structure. Instead of a single, isolated environment, your server is part of a larger World made up of at least 20 interconnected servers. Arrakis itself is split into several distinct maps, and you can travel between them – your home base / private server being the Hagga Basin. This shared, persistent world allows players to interact across servers and maintain a consistent experience. Fewer settings help preserve this balance and ensure that everyone plays by the same rules in a dynamic, evolving universe.

Dune: Awakening takes a different approach to customization compared to more traditional titles, focusing on a shared and consistent experience across its interconnected world. That said, the game is still evolving. As soon as Funcom makes additional options available, Nitrado will implement them swiftly, so you’ll always be up to date with the latest features and improvements.
