How to Update Your Minecraft Server to the Latest Version

Updating your Minecraft server is important for getting all the new and latest features. The process to update depends on your setup, as modded vs vanilla are different. Vanilla Minecraft

We offer a simple way to instantly and automatically update your Java Edition Minecraft server. Follow the instructions below so you can begin enjoying the latest features.

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface and navigate to Settings > General.
   
2. Locate Minecraft Auto-Update in the list of available settings.
   
3. Enable this option, then click Save Changes and restart the server.

Spigot / Paper / Craftbukkit

For servers running Spigot, Paper, or Craftbukkit to use plugins, updates are managed through the version selection tool. This is also where you can choose specific game versions, instead of the latest version – if you want.

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for the Minecraft server.
2. Navigate to Settings > Version Change from the Dashboard.
   
3. Choose the version you want from the list and click Install.
   
4. Click Restart Now in the next prompt, then wait for the server to update.

Forge / Fabric

Minecraft servers using Forge or Fabric will need to reinstall updated versions. Follow these steps to begin that process:

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface and navigate to Switch Game.
   
2. Search for “Minecraft (Modpacks)” at the top in the text box.
   
3. Select Reinstall, choose the specific version you want, and click Reinstall.
   
4. Wait for the server to update with the newer version of Forge / Fabric.

 
When updating a Forge or Fabric server, remember that every mod installed on the server needs to be updated too. This also means that your mods installed locally need to be updated as well. If the versions do not match exactly, you will be unable to join.

Minecraft Bedrock

Bedrock servers are designed for ease of use and are generally kept up to date with the latest version automatically. Simply restart the server from the Dashboard on your Nitrado Web Interface, this will trigger the latest version to download.

Minecraft Modpacks

If you notice a modpack isn’t up to date, contact our Support Team and request an update for the modpack. Our team will manually update that in the system so you can easily reinstall it with the latest version of its release. The same applies to Forge or Fabric standalone versions too, but we usually keep those updated all the time.

Post-Update Check

After any update, it’s crucial to verify that your world and configurations work properly. Software updates can occasionally cause conflicts, leading to world corruption, plugin issues, or mod errors. Follow these steps to ensure your server is running smoothly:

• Verify that all players can connect and that existing structures are intact.
• Update any individual mods or plugins that are no longer compatible.
• If critical errors persist, navigate to Tools > Restore Backup and Restore a backup.
