    FOX SPAWN LOCATIONS

The elegant fox often lives in foresty and colder biome locations in Minecraft. Foxes naturally spawn in five different biomes, Grove, Snow Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, and the Taiga biome. When they appear, foxes will usually spawn in groups of two to four. Most foxes that spawn will be red foxes, however, any foxes that spawn in cold biomes will be white. Sometimes at night, foxes will sneak into villages too. If you see foxes, look out for baby foxes which are 5% of all fox spawns. They are so cute! 🦊😍

HOW TO TAME A FOX IN MINECRAFT

To tame a fox in Minecraft, you’ll need to breed foxes, produce a baby fox, and take care of it until it is an adult. To begin taking care of your own tamed fox, find two adult foxes in the wild of your Minecraft game server world. After finding two foxes, feed them sweet berries or glow berries and they’ll produce a kit that will trust you.

Not sure where to find the berries needed to tame a fox?

    • Sweet berry bushes produce sweet berries in Minecraft. Sweet berry bushes are thorny-looking plants found in old growth pine taiga and old growth spruce taiga biomes in random patches. Interacting with or breaking the bushes will get you sweet berries.
    • Glow berries are berries found on cave vines inside lush caves. Often hanging from the ceiling, you can interact with or break the vine to collect the glow berries.

You can get the following color baby fox depending on the color foxes you breed:

    • Two red foxes → red baby fox
    • Two white foxes → white baby fox
    • Red fox + white fox → 50% chance for a red or white baby fox

The baby fox will follow the player, however, it has a chance to follow nearby foxes and run away with them. To help with this, using a lead on the baby fox while it’s growing up will keep the fox nearby. Once the baby fox grows up into an adult, it’ll trust you and offer a range of unique behaviors and help with fighting any mobs that may attack you.

BEHAVIOR OF A TAMED FOX IN MINECRAFT

A tamed fox could be considered somewhat of a superhero. Maybe that’s pushing it? The mighty fox acts as a protector for the player that bred and tamed it. In fact, a tamed fox has several unique defensive mechanics if a player does get attacked!

    • When wolves or polar bears are nearby, foxes will flee. If a player that the fox trusts is attacked, they’ll then attack to defend the player.
    • Foxes that trust you can work together with your tamed wolves.
    • If Phantoms attack you, foxes will attack them without having to jump.

When you have a tamed fox on your side, you actually have a mighty beast that’s ready to protect you from any threat! 🦊

FOX HOLD ITEMS IN THEIR MOUTH

When you come across a fox in the wild, you may just notice something in its mouth while they’re running around. There is a 20% chance that a fox will be holding one of these items:

Minecraft fox stealing and picking up items
    • Emerald – 5% chance on Java & Bedrock Edition.
    • Rabbit’s Foot – 10% chance on Java & Bedrock Edition.
    • Rabbit Hide – 10% chance on Java & Bedrock Edition.
    • Egg – 15% chance on Java Edition. 20% chance on Bedrock Edition.
    • Wheat – 20% chance on Java & Bedrock Edition.
    • Leather 20% chance on Java & Bedrock Edition.
    • Feather – 20% chance on Java Edition. 15% chance on Bedrock Edition.

If a fox isn’t holding an item, it can still pick up an item. Whether it’s an item they randomly find in the wild or an item that you throw at them, they’ll pick it up with their mouth. Did one of the foxes in your game pick up an item you didn’t want them to? If you throw another item at a fox, especially food such as sweet berries, it’ll drop the item they were holding and pick up the other item instead.

Certain items will even give a power-up to your tamed fox. For example, if your fox is holding a weapon or an item with enchantments, it’ll gain the ability to wield that weapon and the item’s effects. This includes the totem of undying, which can revive the tamed fox if it sees misfortune in mob fights. Try different weapons and enchantments, such as a diamond sword with the fire aspect enchantment. This will lead to experiencing some amazing fights with your tamed fox on your dedicated Minecraft server!
