    Minecraft – WorldGuard Guide

    Minecraft – WorldGuard Guide

One of the best ways to protect your Minecraft server is using WorldGuard, a plugin that prevents griefing in certain customizable regions in your world. Whether you want to prevent mob spawning, fire spread, or simply breaking blocks, you can do that. There are tons of available options to choose from when setting up your own region. In this Nitrado guide, we’ll show you how to install and use the WorldGuard plugin in Minecraft 👏

    WorldGuard Installation

You need to download, then install WorldGuard and WorldEdit before getting started.

    1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for the Minecraft server.
    2. Navigate to Tools > File Browser on the left from your Dashboard.
      Nitrado File Browser
    3. Enter minecraftbukkit / plugins, then click Upload File on the right.
      Nitrado Plugin Guide
    4. Select the WorldGuard file you downloaded and wait for it to upload.
    5. Repeat this process for WorldEdit, then restart the server.

    Creating a Protected Region

To protect an area, you first need to outline the physical space using WorldEdit. You will need to become OP if you aren’t already, so commands can work properly.

    1. Get the Wand: Type //wand in-game to receive the WorldEdit selection tool.
    2. Select the Area:
      • Left-click one corner of the area you want to protect.
      • Right-click the opposite, diagonal corner to create a 3D box selection.
    3. Expand the Region: Protect the area from bedrock to the sky limit, type:
      • //expand vert
    4. Define the Region: Save your selected area as a WorldGuard region by typing:
      • /rg define [region_name]

    Setting Flags (Region Rules)

Flags determine the rules inside your newly created region. It can allow or deny specific actions or interactions. Here’s the main command:

    /rg flag [region_name] [flag_name] [allow | deny | none]

    Common and Useful Flags:

    • pvp: Toggles player-vs-player combat. (Example: /rg flag spawn pvp deny)
    • mob-spawning: Prevents natural mob spawns inside the area.
    • creeper-explosion: Stops creepers from damaging blocks in the region.
    • use: Allows players to interact with doors, buttons, levers, and pressure plates.
    • chest-access: Allows players to open chests, barrels, and hoppers.
    • invincible: Grants players immunity to fall damage, starvation, and mob attacks while inside the boundaries.

    Managing Members and Owners

If you want other players to be able to build inside a protected region, you must add them as members or owners. Members can build, break blocks, and use items within the region. Owners can do everything a member can do, plus they can change flags and add/remove other players.

    • Add a Member: /rg addmember [region_name] [player_name]
    • Add an Owner: /rg addowner [region_name] [player_name]
    • Remove a Player: /rg [removemember | removeowner] [region_name] [player_name]

    The Global Region

Every world automatically has a hidden, background region called __global__. This region covers the entire map. If you want to apply a rule to the entire world (like disabling TNT damage server-wide), you can apply a flag to the global region:

    /rg flag __global__ tnt deny

    World Protection in Minecraft

With the WorldGuard plugin, you’re able to protect anything you want in-game. Whether it’s spawn, a shop, or just an area you want protected, everything is in your control. There are plenty of other commands and actions you can do with this plugin. We recommend checking out the official documentation for WorldGuard to learn more.
