How to Set Up a Modded Minecraft Server

Minecraft reaches its full potential when you break past the vanilla constraints to introduce new mechanics, biomes, and technical systems. Whether you are looking to automate your resource gathering with complex machinery or dive into a world of high fantasy magic, modding transforms the game into a personalized masterpiece. Forge / Fabric Versions

Before adding content, you must establish the technical foundation of your server. Modding in Minecraft is primarily split between two major loaders: Forge and Fabric. Forge is the long-standing industry standard known for heavy mods, while Fabric is a modern lightweight alternative favored for its performance and fast update cycles. Choosing the correct version ensures that your server software and your selected mods communicate effectively without causing crashes.

Setting Up Modded Server

Once you have selected your preferred mod loader, you need to install it on your Minecraft server. Follow the steps below to get started:

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface and navigate to Switch Game.
   
2. Search for “Minecraft (Modpacks)” at the top in the text box.
   
3. Select Reinstall or Install, choose the specific version you want, and install it.
   
4. Wait for the server to install your Forge / Fabric mod loader.

Installing Minecraft Mods

Individual mods allow you to build a unique gameplay experience for players in your server. It’s important to only upload mods that are compatible with your mod loader and game version. For instance, if the server is using Forge 1.21, then only mods for Forge and Minecraft 1.21 can work. The following steps will guide you through the process to install mods.

1. Head towards your Nitrado Web Interface for the modded Minecraft server.
2. Navigate to Tools > File Browser from the Dashboard on the left.
   
3. Enter the minecraftotherpacks/mods directory, then click Upload File.
   
4. Proceed to select the mod file you want to install, then wait for it to upload.
5. Repeat this process for all other mods you want on the server.
6. Afterwards, restart the server from the Dashboard to load all the mods.

Installing Modpacks

We offer a wide range of modpacks for Minecraft, pre-installed for your convenience. All you need to do is select them from the Switch Game menu on your Web Interface. However, if you want custom modpacks installed on your Forge or Fabric Minecraft server – then you will need to manually do that. We recommend using a FTP Client (like FileZilla) to connect to the server files, then you can upload all of the mods from the pack. More information can be found here.
