ARK Aberration Expansion Pack – Introduction
Ready to delve into an elaborate underground cave system surrounded by corruption? The Aberration ARK Expansion has arrived at ARK for the Nintendo Switch and ARK Switch servers. Packed with new content, Aberration is sure to bring challenges to new and old players alike to enjoy!
Aberration is an ARK Expansion Pack originally released on December 12th, 2017. Placing players on a damaged ARK that’s lost its atmosphere, new dangers and challenges await due to the intense radiation that resulted. This caused many creatures to adapt with new abilities such as the Rock Drake’s camouflage or the Bulbdog’s glowing light. To take on these challenges, you and your friends will need to level up, collect protective gear like hazard suits, and head into the radiation to uncover the secrets of Aberration.
It’s time to head into the dark caves and across the flowing element rivers of Aberration as we explore more of the DLC and how you can try it on your own ARK game server! ⬇️
ARK Aberration DLC on Nintendo Switch Servers

What’s Featured in the Radiation Expansion?
New Creatures & Charged Light
It’s dangerous to go alone so it’ll be important to bring your friends and new charged light creatures with you. Charged light creatures are a beacon of light for players, not only shining their way through the darkness but also warding off deadly Nameless and Reapers that roam. They’re not the only new creatures though, with a total of 15 new creatures and a boss being added. Here are just some of the creatures you’ll run into in your adventures:
- Rock Drake – A rocky lizard-like creature appearing similar to a Wyvern, it can turn almost completely invisible, climb, and glide. A very useful tame for any ARK player.
- Bulbdog – An adorable, glowing bulldog-like animal that loves treats. Part of the family of charged light creatures, they play a vital role in the Aberration expansion pack.
- Nameless – Popping out from the surface, these creatures roam in groups to catch their prey. Only speed, and the help of a charged light creature, can protect you and your friends.
- Reaper Queen – One of the most dangerous creatures in Aberration, you’ll need to avoid its poisonous tail during battles. With success, you can breed with a Reaper Queen, have its baby, and raise it for your own!
Aberrant Creatures
Alongside the new creatures of Aberration, a new type emerges called Aberrant creatures. While similar to existing dinosaurs, these Aberrant creatures have a twist. To find one, you’ll want to look for uniquely colored creatures that glow in the dark, similar to the one in the image below. We recommend having plenty of armor, as they have 4% less health but deal 6% more damage than normal. Once you’re ready, take them head-on with fellow ARK adventurers to ensure you can beat them or tame them!
Unique and Radiated World of the Aberration ARK DLC
During your explorations into Aberration, you’ll discover that the world is highly radiated and often shakes violently too. The shaking is the result of devastating earthquakes that regularly happen across the map. We do not recommend climbing when an earthquake hits, as you can be thrown to the ground and injured. Using protective gear and the proper tools including tamed dinosaurs will ensure you survive on this challenging yet beautiful map!

How to Play Aberration on Your ARK: SE Switch Server
- First, head to your Nintendo Switch ARK server webinterface.
- Then, stop your server to ensure you can properly adjust the map.
- Next, on the left side under “Settings”, click “General” to edit your server settings.
- Within the settings, locate the “Mapname” option. Using the dropdown, select the “Aberration” expansion pack.
- After selecting that map, press “Save changes” and then start your server.
- Finally, join your Nintendo Switch server and you will now be able to begin your ARK Aberration expansion pack journey with friends!

After understanding what is available in the new ARK Aberration expansion pack, there is so much to explore!
