What You Need Before You Can Spawn Dinos

Two switches have to be on before any spawn command does anything: admin rights on your server, and Console Access inside the game.

Admin access comes from the admin password you set in your Nitrado Web Interface under Settings > General. Save it, restart the server, and that password becomes the key you type in-game to prove who you are. On a dedicated server, everyone who wants to spawn creatures needs it.

The second lives in the game rather than the Web Interface. Console Access ships switched off, so you’ll need to enable the console from the in-game settings menu under Advanced before the key that opens it responds to anything.

How to Open the Console on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation

On PC, the default key is tilde (~). If you’ve reworked your bindings, check Settings > Keyboard > Toggle Console for whatever you mapped it to. Pressing the key once gives you a single-line prompt; pressing it twice opens the full console window, which is easier to work in when you’re checking a long creature ID.

The Four ARK Spawn Commands Explained

Four commands spawn creatures, and the one you want depends on how much control you need.

cheat Summon <CreatureID> drops a wild, untamed creature at your feet at a random level. It’s the quickest of the four and useful for stocking a trap or testing something, but the creature behaves like anything else wild, up to and including attacking you.

cheat SummonTamed <CreatureID> spawns the same creature already force-tamed, so it follows you instead of hunting you. The level is still random, and you still need a saddle before you can ride it.

cheat GMSummon “<CreatureID>” <Level> adds level control. It spawns a tamed creature at roughly the level you name, and it wants the creature ID in quotes. The saddle rule applies here too.

cheat SpawnDino “<BlueprintPath>” <SpawnDistance> <SpawnYOffset> <ZOffset> <DinoLevel> is the precise one. It takes the full blueprint path instead of the short ID, and in exchange it lets you set an exact level and place the creature at a set distance and offset from where you’re standing, rather than directly on top of you.

How to Spawn a Tamed Dino at a Specific Level

cheat GMSummon “<CreatureID>” <Level> is the command for pulling in a dino at a level you choose without taming it first. Put the creature ID in quotes, follow it with the level you want, and the creature arrives tamed.

The number you type isn’t the number you end up with. ARK applies the same taming bonus it would after a normal tame, which pushes the creature a few levels past what you asked for. A GMSummon at 150 typically settles somewhere above 150. Treat your number as a floor rather than a target.

The saddle rule still holds. GMSummon skips the taming process, not the equipment, so the creature stays unrideable until you craft or buy the saddle that matches it.
