Creating a Local Backup of your Server via FTP

Creating a Local Backup of your Server via FTP

    Introduction

Backing up your game server data is crucial to ensure that you don’t lose your progress and configurations due to unexpected issues. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of creating a local backup of your server folders using FileZilla. We’ll use a Satisfactory server as an example, but the steps are generally applicable to other game servers as well. By following these steps, you can safely store a copy of your server data on your local machine, giving you peace of mind and control over your game data. Let’s get started!

To create a local backup of your server folders via FileZilla, follow these steps:

    Example: Satisfactory Server

    1. Open the Nitrado Web Interface:
    – Log into your Nitrado account.
    – If you are not on the dashboard, click on “Dashboard” under the “Information” section on the left-hand side of the page.

    2. Locate FTP Credentials:
    – Scroll down to the bottom of the dashboard page until you see the “FTP Credentials” section.
    – Keep this page open as you will need the information shortly.

    3. Open FileZilla:
    – Launch the FileZilla application on your computer.

    4. Enter Server Information:
    – At the top of FileZilla, you will see fields for Hostname, Username, and Password.
    – You can either manually enter the FTP credentials from your Nitrado dashboard or use the option to copy them directly from the webpage.
    – Fill in the Hostname, Username, and Password fields in FileZilla.

    5. Connect to Your Server:
    – Click “Quickconnect” to establish a connection to your server.
    – Once connected, you will see two sections on the main screen: the “Local site” (your computer) and the “Remote site” (your server).

    6. Navigate Folders:
    – On the “Remote site” (right side), navigate to the folders you want to back up. For most games, you need to copy the “Saved” folder.

    – On the “Local site” (left side), select a destination folder on your computer where you want to save the backup. In this example, we use “Saved Games” as the destination folder.

    7. Copy the Folder:
    – You can copy the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting “Download.”

    – Alternatively, you can drag the folder from the “Remote site” to the destination folder on your computer.

    8. Wait for Transfer:
    – Wait for the transfer to complete. This might take some time depending on the size of the files.

    Additional Notes:
Be Cautious: Be very careful with the folders you move or delete on your server. Moving or deleting the wrong file can make your server unusable.

Alternative Software: The procedure is similar if you decide to use software other than FileZilla.

If you need more information on FileZilla or WinSCP please check this guide.

By following these steps, you can easily create a local backup of your server’s saved folder. This ensures you have a secure copy of your game data.
